Labradorite Necklaces & Pendants

Our labradorite necklaces are chosen for the flash: a quiet gray stone that lights up blue and gold as it turns in the light. Pick the Fine Pearl pendant, our best seller, a round stone in a silver-tone frame; the Guardian Star, a faceted hexagon on a gold-tone chain; or a labradorite heart. In crystal tradition, labradorite is the stone of transformation and intuition. Our labradorite meaning guide tells its story.

What labradorite is. Labradorite is a plagioclase feldspar, gray to gray-green at rest. Its flashes of blue, green and gold, called labradorescence, come from thin layers inside the stone that bounce light back, so every piece shows its own colors. It is named after Labrador, in Canada, and Finland's rainbow variety is known as spectrolite. An Inuit legend says the northern lights were once trapped in its rocks.

How to wear it. A pendant shows the flash best, because the stone faces out and catches the light as you move. Choose a chain that lets it rest at the collarbone or just below, against the skin. In one common tradition the left side receives and the right side gives, so people who wear labradorite as a protection symbol often keep it on the left.

Real vs fake. Tilt the stone under a single lamp. Real labradorite flashes at one angle, fades to gray at others and shows fine lines inside. Glass that glows the same from every angle is often opalite, and "black labradorite" is usually larvikite, a different rock. The labradorite meaning guide walks through five simple checks.

Care. At 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale, labradorite is softer than quartz and can chip, so store it in its own pouch and take it off for sport or housework. A quick wipe with a soft cloth is enough; skip soaking and salt. For gentle rituals such as smoke, sound or moonlight, see how to cleanse crystals.

Frequently asked questions

What does wearing labradorite do for you?
In crystal tradition, labradorite is worn as a stone of transformation, intuition and protection, especially by sensitive people. It is a symbol and a daily reminder, not a promise; for every stone tradition links to protection, see our protection necklaces.
What is the meaning of a labradorite necklace?
It stands for hidden brilliance: a plain gray stone that flashes with color when it meets the light. Many people choose one at a turning point, as a reminder to look at things from a new angle.
What not to pair with labradorite?
Guides disagree. Some keep it apart from heavy grounding stones such as hematite, others pair them on purpose for balance. A classic pairing is labradorite with black obsidian, light and grounding together.
How do I know if labradorite is real?
Real labradorite has a flash that switches on and off as you tilt it, with fine lines and patches of color inside. A stone that glows evenly from every angle is likely glass. More checks in our labradorite meaning guide.
Can labradorite get wet?
A splash is fine, but don't soak it, and take it off before the shower or the pool. Wipe it dry with a soft cloth.
